our origins
Jessica is the founder + curator of High Strangeness Books.
Jessica has been an avid reader of horror and science fiction since childhood, consuming her father’s collection of Stephen King novels with fervor. She grew up in rural, forest preserves throughout the USA; later working in technology communication throughout various mountain ranges in Guatemala and Western Europe.
Jessica became enraptured by legends of high strangeness from these different places and she captured these stories / created online maps on a (now defunct) blog. Along the way, she discovered a new passion: Book collecting.
Jessica became enamored with international editions and translated works while living in Southern France. Horror literature took on an entirely new perspective for her, which is when Jessica began her passion project in bookselling.
Jessica attended university in Chicago, she moved back shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. The new experiences led Jessica to a place where life felt too short – And thus, the origin story of High Strangeness Books!
